Medicaid Drug Rebate Summit Recap: What Stood Out for GP Teams
Oct 28, 2026
Happy Fall, Y’all!
Once again, Informa Connect’s Medicaid Drug Rebate Summit drew a large and engaged crowd in Chicago, and The Pricing Group’s Wellness Corner was a hit! It was great to reconnect with industry colleagues, meet new faces, and explore the evolving Government Pricing (GP) landscape.
Two themes stood out to our team—here’s what caught our attention and why they matter for GP teams.
Regulatory Developments and Legal Perspectives
Two highly anticipated Fireside Chats with external legal counsel drew a full room. With so many recent legislative and regulatory developments, attendees were eager for “nuggets of wisdom” on how manufacturers should respond. Understandably, the attorneys stopped short of offering definitive guidance, as the implications depend on each manufacturer’s products, circumstances, and business practices.
One message came through clearly, though: documentation, documentation, documentation. Counsel stressed the importance of:
Well-supported Reasonable Assumptions
Comprehensive audit documentation
Clearly defined compliance protocols
The discussions also highlighted Fair Market Value (FMV) assessments and Bona Fide Service Fee (BFSF) determinations. Manufacturers should be confident that their methodologies, supporting analyses, and records can withstand regulatory scrutiny.
Artificial Intelligence and Government Pricing
AI was another major topic, and the tone has shifted noticeably. A few years ago, prospective clients were asking whether GP systems could use AI to streamline processes or simplify complex calculations. This year, the conversation moved from whether AI belongs in GP to how to use it effectively and responsibly.
Attendees saw opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen data analysis and quality control, and reduce manual processes. They were equally focused on data security, confidentiality, accuracy, and human oversight. Given the complexity of GP regulations and the financial and compliance consequences of reporting errors, the consensus was clear: AI should support experienced GP professionals and sound compliance practices, not replace them.
Our Takeaway
As the GP landscape continues to evolve, two priorities remain clear: maintaining defensible, well-documented methodologies and using technology to improve operations without compromising compliance. At The Pricing Group, we believe deep regulatory expertise, robust processes, and thoughtful use of technology are essential to navigating this complex environment.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our Wellness Corner to connect with us! If these topics raise questions for your organization, we’d welcome the opportunity to discuss what they could mean for your GP operations and compliance strategy.
